New ISP
Tonight’s the night when I finally get a (hopefully) proper Internet connection again. Strangely two weeks past, my torrents were castrated to the point where I couldn’t even get 1 kbps. A few days later I hit 100k but that was short lived. On top of that I have a horribly difficult time connecting to my server from home. That means any time there’s a problem I’d have to come in instead of fixing it from the coziness of my computer room. Is there a coincidence between to two? I don’t see how but who knows what Shaw is tinkering with behind the scenes.
I called support and they sent someone out to have a look. Basically something was pooched because I was only getting 3 meg download from speedtest.net when I’m paying for 10 meg. The tech called in and verified all the normal shit (bypassing the router, etc. etc.) but the guys on the other end wouldn’t be able to look at it until a few days later. It’s been over a week and still no fix.
So I’m glad I called Sask Tel and scheduled an install – they have to do the extreme install as there is no self install for that and it’s half price for 4 months. If everything goes well from there I’ll drop it down to the next fastest speed and save $10 a month.
