Bioshock and Take 2
I’m absolutely loving Bioshock right now. I’m playing it both on the 360 and the PC. Yes, I actually bought it twice, really I did. I bought it first when Bioshock first came out on the 360 which I rarely do as I hate paying the high prices and then I bought it again over Steam as it’s such a very simple process to do so and the content manager downloads and installs it for you. It’s the second game I purchased from Steam, the first being Titan Quest and it’s expansion. I’m really pleased with Valve’s setup and I’m sure I’ll be buying from them again.
I had tried Bioshock at first and didn’t quite get into it. But that’s because I only played for an hour or two. Once I picked it up again I’m having trouble putting it down (except when WoW comes rapping on my window). I have never experienced such game where the world is so real and the AI is so….er I. The RPG elements are excellent too and the story is better than most (but I hear both endings are pretty lame).
This game is based upon Ayn Rand‘s novel Atlas Shrugged which is prime example of a farily popular philosophy called Objectivism and is very interesting and worth a little study. I’ve procured Atlas Shrugged both in print format as well as the audio book. I’m trying to find some time to get into them. Take 2 based the entire theme of Bioshock on this and I’m glad they did as it’s complete new material that’s never been used before in games, that I’m aware of.
The really really sad thing about this is that the evil empire known as EA has been trying to forcefully buy them and I’m so scared that they will succeed because they’re such a huge company. I was devistated when EA bought out Bioware, a company out of Edmonton who made the Baldur’s Gates, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and most recently Mass Effect. I’ve still not forgotten that EA monopolized the NFL license so we only have Madden to play each year – but the joke’s on the people who buy the game – it’s the same thing every year so I hope you enjoy laying down cash for a pointless rehash each new iteration. Bioware produced the best RPG games and consistently too. It was a sad day when they were destroyed by EA. If they acquire Take 2 that will pretty much destroy my PC budget as I’ll not be buying new products for the PC or consoles that come from EA. I will not support that company as the destroy something I enjoy a lot – playing games.
